Selenium is a valuable trace element necessary for the production of glutathione peroxidase, a major enzyme found in every cell in our body. Selenium in nature is found in various forms: organic (selenomethionine) and inorganic (sodium selenite, sodium selenate). Organic selenium is thought to be better absorbed than inorganic. Semenethionine is an amino acid containing selenium. This amino acid is necessary to protect red blood cells and their membranes from oxidizing agents.
